Well, this Saturday’s inaugural event has finally made it to the news media! Below we have Reuters’ video of part of the Melick vs Leveque matchup (Leveque won in the 5th round by taking Melick’s King). More than 500 fans showed up to watch the match. There is already a movement to have chessboxing recognized by the IOC and to be included in the Olympics! (I am moving to Mars!)
The event took place at the Boston Arms in London. Here is a bit of info that I found on this site:
The Boston Arms is a bar/club that boasts over 10 years of service to the drinkers and party goers of North London. A hot bed for a great many music lovers, not only in London but across the UK, mainly thanks to its slick blend of no-holds 1950’s & 60’s music spun by resident hosts Cosmic Keith and Brighton’s Dave Crozier. The club delivers a solid blend of first-rate rockabilly, rock’n’roll, blues, instrumentals, rhythm ‘n’ blues, classic and rare groove.
A superb venue right opposite Tuffnell Park tube with a great wooden dance floor and cheap bar prices. Add to this their new Dome Club upstairs, which is fast becoming a North London favourite thanks to the regular chessboxing evenings.
