Céline Roos RIP
22.12.1953 — 20.4.2021
Sad news from Strasbourg, France. The eldest child of Michel and Jacqueline Roos passed away at age 67 after a brief illness. She leaves a daughter Héloise as well as her 3 brothers, Jean-Luc, Daniel and Louis.
No doubt my Canadian readers will remember Céline when she lived in Montreal and played 4 times for the Canadian National Team (in 1984 Céline won the gold medal on board #2). In 1985 she was awarded the WIM title.
Céline was born into France’s #1 chess family. Her father, Michel, a well known doctor in Strasbourg, was French Champion (1964) while her mother, Jacqueline, was a grandmaster in correspondence chess! All three of her brothers became IMs and have won numerous national and international championships.
Céline was a very talented individual. Apart from being a very accomplished chess player (she defeated me once!), Céline was also an author, blogger and teacher. I will not list all of her achievements here, and instead will limit myself today to expressing my condolences to her family.
