Caruana makes it look easy!
Caruana makes it look easy!
(Photo courtesy of organizers) One of this year’s strongest open tournaments is taking place at the Isle of Man. Twenty-five players rated over 2600, including 7 rated more than 2700. Caruana is the top rated. 133-players from 36 countries. Forty-eight grandmasters…impressive statistics!
The game below is from the 6th round of the tournament , between Caruana and Movsesian. It features a Sicilian defence, and is an excellent example of modern chess. Black never quite got out of the opening with a fully adequate game, and his opponent never let him off the hook for the rest of the game. Worth careful study!
(NOTE: I am using a nice little plugin called RPB-chessboard to demonstrate this game. To get the most out of what follows, click on any move and a pop-up chessboard will appear. You can drag this board over to the sidebar, resize it with the mouse, and play over the variations or even the whole game. Experiment with it! Kind of reminds me of some really nice stuff I have seen in e-books. You can find out more about RPB here.)
