Canadian Zonal starts with a BANG!
Bareev loses in round 1

The BIG surprise of the first round was #1 seed, GM Bareev, losing to the talented youngster Joshua Doknjas (rated 2203). With this upset the tournament has been thrown wide open and it is now anyone’s guess who the tournament favourite is.

Official Tournament Poster?

Don’t be shocked! Remember: this is Canada we are talking about, not the USA. Rex Sinquefield does not have a rich relative living in Canada.
There is no official tournament poster. There is no official website. No YouTube channel. No LIVE streaming.
Prizes are based on the number of paid entries. Players have to pay their own expenses.
There is no move transmission on Chess24, ChessBomb, ChessBase or any other known or respected live feed.
Fortunately, the organizers have found a little known alternative to showing the games. Which is probably a good thing, considering that there are ONLY a grand total of 5 functioning DGT boards in all of Canada. Oops, but wait a minute:

Perhaps as an act of mercy, the tournament organizers have decided to use ChessResults so that now the players can find their next round pairings without having to guess.
As well, the Canadian Chess Federation has a FaceBook page with some photos and what not…so chess fans should not be left to think that the organizers are entirely brain dead.
