Curiosity

“ Love is three-quarters curiosity.” – Casanova. I love everything about this woman. Her lips, her eyes, her shoulders. Especially her expression…it reminds me of Vermeer’s ‘Girl with a Pearl Earring’ I wish I knew her name…but Google is of no help. She will have remain a mystery, everywhere, except in my imagination.

An Embarrassing (?) Penis Story

Believe it or not, a true story! Jonah Falcon’s penis problem has made him a superstar. Even RollingStone did a piece on him! An actor by calling, his ‘fame’ has made it difficult to get regular work. He lives with his mother. His longest relationship with a woman was a year. According to wiki, Jonah describes himself as bisexual.
Chess Curiosities

1934 Soviet Uzbek poster with the slogan ”Chess and Checkers – to the masses”. Posters were a popular propaganda medium in those days. They were short, sweet and to the point. That being said, we wonder why the board is set up wrong (the lower-right hand corner should be white). Western decadence?!

“Let’s expose and destroy the provocateurs and spreaders of panic rumours!” Soviet poster, 1941

J.B.Trepagnier might be a pseudonym, I could not verify. But the author definitely likes to use chess images for his/her book cover!

Vintage Ads with Chess

1958 ad for a General Electric TV set. This model is portable, different from the ‘normal’ TV sets of that era which were often bulky and just like a piece of furniture. Why use chess as a prop? Probably to put emphasis on the TV’s portability, that it could be placed wherever you want when you are finished with it…
Odds and Ends

Dark Humor! But we can all relate to it…one of the reasons why, when ever I invite a large group over for dinner, I keep the menu simple and easy to digest.

Hey, don’t laugh too much! There was a time when subscribing a lobotomy was as socially acceptable as a handshake. I am currently reading the story of Dr. Ewen Cameron, the chief pyschiatrist at Montreal’s notorious Alan Psychiatric Institute during the 1940s and 1950s. His work was performed unsuspectingly on walk-in patients for years. It later formed the basic techniques for brainwashing, mental torture and mind control for the CIA.

Pity the husband who wakes up in the middle of the night and finds he is sleeping with something out of a nightmare!
