SPRAGGETT ON CHESS
In chess you can see the pawns coming forward but you rarely get worried because they can only advance one move at a time. However, chess can surprise us all and we sometimes we find ourselves getting over run by what seems like an avalanche! CASE in point is what happened to Nurlan Ibraev in his game agains gm Pavel Kotsur in the recently completed international tournament in Apia
POSITION AFTER WHITE’S 16th MOVE:
”Avalanche? What avalanche? I don’t see an avalanche…”
POSITION AFTER 19 MOVES:
Pawns slowly moving forward, but still no need to panic…
POSITION AFTER 22 MOVES:
”Oops”…Time to panic!
POSITION AFTER BLACK’S 23rd MOVE (23…b3!!):
White loses atleast a Rook!
