36th European Chess Club Cup
The 36th edition of the European Chess Club Cup got underway on the 17th in the city of Struga, in North Macedonia. The strong team championship brings together many of the world’s leading grandmasters, and is a 7 round event that ends on the 25th.
The time control is the classical 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes to finish (with 30′ per move since move 1). As a result, the quality of chess is distinctly superior to rapid and blitz events.
I am enjoying playing over the games. Below I present a really well played game by grandmaster David Navara. His opponent is the experienced French grandmaster Anatoly Vaisser. This game sees White carefully deconstruct the popular Benko Gambit.
