2011 Chinese Individual Championship
SPRAGGETT ON CHESS
The Kings Indian Defence did very well this round! Here the game is extremely complex and messy, with both sides having chances. In this type of fight, one does not expect perfection…
Black is busted on the Queenside and so must try for mate on the Kingside. Black uncorked the wild
The Chinese Individual Chess Championship takes place between the 30th of March and the 10th of April in Xinghua, province of Jiangsu. Wang Yue and Bu Xiangzhi are top seeded in this very strong event. Women World Champion Hou Yifan is also participating.
Times are changing fast and China today is also the fastest developing country chess-wise. This year’s championship no doubt will be the strongest national championship in the world, with the possible exception of the Russian Super-Final. However, in my mind, this championship will be the most interesting, especially given the presence of the World Champion.
The tournament is an 12 -player round robbin (each player plays against everyone else once). The time control is 90 minutes plus 30 seconds for the whole game. The top 8 finishers automatically qualify for next year’s Championship. The last 4 finishers qualify for the Reserves-Championship.

White is down an exchange for a pawn, but there can be no doubt of Black’s huge positional advantage! The White Bishop is a mere pawn in this game… that the female World Champion failed to win this ending can be diplomatically explained by the fast time control…ofcourse, the fact that she is only 16 years old and has very little experience in endings might also have contributed!
